EN 1279
The new European Standard EN1279 is due to come into force in the very near future. This standard has been on the Drawing board for around 13 years and will be the biggest shake up the industry has ever had to deal with.
We are led to believe that once the new standard has been implemented there will be a 12-21 month period for the Unit manufacturers to comply, after this period a Unit manufacturer without the necessary standard will not be allowed to manufacture and sell Double glazed units by Law.
One of the stages of complying with the new standard is testing of approximately 15 double glazed units of a certain size by a recognised body such as the BSI, (En 1279 part 2) we are also led to believe that if a unit manufacturer decides to leave the implementation of the new standard till ‘later’ they may have a problem getting there Units Tested by such a recognised body due to the lack of capacity for testing these units. The BSI (notified test house) have currently got the facility to test Units for 300 customers, there are approximately 3000 unit manufacturers in the UK, there is also another test house in the UK, BM TRADA who currently also have a facility for testing units.
DQS are also in a position to be able to offer its customers a ‘Factory production control’ CDROM. The CDROM Allows the customer to be able to write their own FPC manual and in conjunction with visits from a consultant, this can sometimes reduce the cost of implementing the system, for further information on the CDROM please use the form.
We have put together a range of information to help our customers recognise and achieve the new standard. These are available as PDF files, found at the top right of this page.
